Billboard magazine named Oklahoma State University’s music industry department a top music business school for the second year in a row.
The Michael and Anne Greenwood School of Music’s music industry program is highlighted in the October 2023 issue of Billboard. The magazine chose the top music business colleges based on industry recommendations, alumni information, and information sought from each school. Abbey Road Institute, California Institute of the Arts, and New York University were among the 41 approved schools listed.
Scott Hendricks, an alumnus of Oklahoma State University and executive vice president of A&R at Warner Music-Nashville, remarked, “It is simply astounding that Oklahoma State University was recognized a top music business school for the second year in a row. Without the influx of intelligent individuals from such schools, the music industry would not exist.
Although OSU’s Bachelor of Science in Music Industry degree is relatively new, students already have access to unique possibilities and learning experiences. Students acquire music business experience through Poke U, a student-run music firm that connects students with industry pros.
The program’s director, Dr. Mark Perry, stated, “In my opinion, there isn’t just one thing that makes us stand out, it is a collection of happenings.” “For instance, the New York Philharmonic residency, the rock band Other Lives residency, the Dick and Malinda Berry Fischer recording studio, the songwriting classes with Nashville-based songwriter Zac Maloy, and the successful career placement of our graduates.”
Perry noted that the GSM is constantly working to improve its curriculum for present and potential students. Billboard magazine’s recognition will assist them in continuing their aim by spreading the word about the program’s accomplishments.
